Dhaka South City Corporation prepared to clear sacrificial animal waste within eight hours
Dhaka South City Corporation has taken extensive measures to remove sacrificial animal waste within eight hours during Eid-ul-Azha by deploying around 13,453 workers across the capital.
The workforce includes 6,553 DSCC staff members, 4,700 workers under the Primary Collection Service Provider (PCSP), and another 2,200 cleaners assigned to 11 temporary cattle markets.
DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md Abdus Salam told BSS that the main waste removal operation will begin at 12 noon on Eid day, aiming to clear all first-day sacrificial waste within the following eight hours.
He urged residents not to dispose of sacrificial waste into drains or sewers, warning that it could lead to disease outbreaks and severe waterlogging during rainfall.
According to DSCC Public Relations Officer Md Russell Rahman, around 33,942 tonnes of waste are expected to be removed at the Matuail Sanitary Landfill over three days. Of the total, 15,935 tonnes will be cleared on the first day, 11,776 tonnes on the second day, and 6,231 tonnes on the third day.
This year, around 174,406 animals are expected to be sacrificed within DSCC areas.
To support the operation, DSCC will use 2,117 vehicles and equipment, including 45 compactors, 210 dump trucks, 42 container carriers, excavators, bulldozers, and water tankers.
In addition, 46 tonnes of bleaching powder, 210 gallons of Savlon, and 140,000 biodegradable bags will be distributed.
A central control room at Nagar Bhaban will monitor activities round-the-clock, while separate control rooms have been set up at each cattle market. Executive magistrates and medical teams will also remain on duty.
Two hotline numbers — 01709900888 and 02223386014 — have been opened to receive and address public complaints related to sacrificial waste management.
