Indian High Commissioner Meets Prime Minister, Dhaka and Delhi discuss bilateral ties and issues of mutual interest, says PM’s Deputy Press Secretary

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday, with the two sides discussing bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.

The meeting took place at around 11am at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat, according to Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Zahidul Islam Rony.

“It was a courtesy meeting. They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and issues of mutual interest,” he said.

The meeting marked Trivedi’s first engagement with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir were also present.

India appointed Trivedi, a former railway and health minister and veteran politician from West Bengal, as its 16th High Commissioner to Bangladesh in April, succeeding Pranay Kumar Verma.

He officially assumed office after presenting his credentials to then-President Mohammed Shahabuddin on June 25.

Since arriving in Dhaka, Trivedi has also met with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid as part of his diplomatic engagements.
