Shadman, Shanto steer Bangladesh to 96-2 at lunch

Bangladesh reached 96 for two at lunch on the opening day of the first Test against West Indies at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.

Shadman Islam remained unbeaten on 42, while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was not out on 15 as Bangladesh recovered from the early loss of Tanzid Hasan, who departed for seven.

Shadman and Mominul Haque steadied the innings with a 59-run partnership for the second wicket before Mominul fell for 28 off 51 deliveries in the 22nd over. Jomel Warrican claimed the wicket after Mominul chipped a tossed-up delivery to Shamar Joseph at mid-off.

Shadman, who struck five boundaries, then joined Shanto to add an unbeaten 28-run stand for the third wicket, guiding Bangladesh to 96-2 after 29 overs at the lunch break.
