Power Crisis Expected to Ease Significantly Before Next Summer: State Minister

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit on Saturday expressed optimism that the country’s power shortage would ease considerably before the next summer.

He said the government was offering a range of incentives and facilities to encourage entrepreneurs to invest in solar power generation, with a target of producing at least 3,000MW of solar electricity before next summer.

Amit made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion organised by the Jashore district administration at the Jashore PTI auditorium in the afternoon.

The meeting focused on improving the quality of education, strengthening moral education and maintaining cleanliness at educational institutions. Headteachers, education officials and chairpersons of school governing bodies took part in the discussion.

Referring to rising fuel prices, Amit said that even Saudi Arabia, despite its vast oil reserves, had witnessed increases in fuel prices. Oil and gas prices have also gone up in the United States, he noted, reflecting the broader rise in global energy prices.

“Given this situation, how long can an import-dependent country like ours keep fuel prices unchanged? Nevertheless, the government is making adjustments while keeping the interests of the people in mind,” he said.

Addressing teachers, the state minister emphasised the importance of instilling moral values in students from the primary level.

He also called for greater attention to cleanliness and proper sanitation in educational institutions and urged schools to maintain regular communication with parents to help prevent child marriage.

Amit assured that financial difficulties would not force any student at a government school to discontinue their education.

“No student at a government school will have to drop out because of financial constraints. The government will take responsibility for them,” he said.

Jashore Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ashiq Hasan chaired the meeting, while Jashore District Council Administrator Delwar Hossain Khokon attended as a special guest.
