Production resumed at almost all garment factories in Gazipur on Thursday morning as workers returned to their workplaces following days of labour unrest.

No untoward incidents or fresh labour unrest had been reported as of 9:00am. Factories that had suddenly declared holidays on Wednesday also reopened this morning.

During visits to Bhogra, Naojor, Board Bazar and Signboard around 8:00am, workers were seen queuing up to enter factories, while production activities were running normally.

However, the main gate of Libas Garment Factory on Joydebpur-Shibbari Road remained closed, with around 10–12 people standing outside.

Gazipur Industrial Police Superintendent Amjad Hossain said “99.99 percent” of garment factories in the district were operational on Thursday.

Traffic movement on the Dhaka-Mymensingh and Dhaka-Tangail highways was also normal. Additional police personnel were deployed at Joydebpur Chowrasta and other key locations to maintain law and order.

Garment workers had been protesting since November 1, demanding an increase in the minimum monthly wage from Tk12,500 to Tk30,000.

In response to the unrest, the government formed a six-member minimum wage board on November 1. The board held its first meeting on Wednesday, where it was decided that the revised wage structure would take effect from December. Workers are expected to receive their first salaries under the new structure in January 2027.
