Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus praised the Bangladesh Army for setting a commendable example by constructing houses for flood victims with high standards and transparency.

Speaking virtually from his office at a house handover ceremony held across Feni, Noakhali, Cumilla, and Chattogram districts, he stated that the Army had built 300 homes under a special housing project in flood-affected areas despite challenging conditions.

Prof Yunus highlighted that the project, implemented by the Bangladesh Army, ensured both quality construction and effective utilization of resources. Remarkably, the work was completed using only half of the allocated Tk 50 crore budget.

Expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Army and local administrations, he expressed hope that the Army would continue to support citizens during future disasters. Recalling the severe floods that struck southeastern Bangladesh in August and September last year, he noted the extensive damage in the four districts, where many people lost their homes.

The Chief Adviser affirmed the government’s responsibility to support those affected, which led to the swift initiation of this housing project. He said the beneficiaries, who had lost their homes, now have a place to live with their families.

Encouraging the recipients, Prof Yunus urged them to prioritize their children’s education to help them grow into good human beings and successful entrepreneurs.

In total, 300 homes were handed over: 110 in Feni, 90 in Noakhali, 70 in Cumilla, and 30 in Chattogram. Keys were distributed to the beneficiaries by the respective deputy commissioners on behalf of the Chief Adviser.

Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam, Bir Protik, and Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman also addressed the ceremony at the CAO end. The event was attended by senior civil and military officials.
