Writ Dismissed, Ishraque Cleared for Oath as DSCC Mayor

The High Court has rejected a writ petition that sought to block BNP leader Ishraque Hossain from taking the oath as mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), effectively allowing him to assume the office. The decision was made on Thursday, May 22, by a bench consisting of Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury.

Following the ruling, Ishraque’s lawyer, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, confirmed that there is no longer any legal obstacle preventing Ishraque from being sworn in. The hearing on the petition began on Tuesday afternoon and was adjourned before resuming later that day, with the verdict initially scheduled for Wednesday but postponed to Thursday.
