Birthday Boy Litton Scripts World Record
Bangladesh white-ball captain Litton Das reached the 9,000-run milestone in international cricket with a century in the Abu Dhabi Test on the eve of his 32nd birthday.
On Tuesday, 13 October, Litton celebrated his birthday by setting a world record for a wicketkeeper-batter, scoring half-centuries in both innings and registering nine dismissals in a single Test match. Born in Dinajpur on 13 October 1994, he achieved the feat against Afghanistan during his international career spanning 11 years and four months.
After scoring 53 in the first innings, the right-handed batter produced an impressive 102 in the second. Behind the stumps, he completed nine dismissals, including eight catches and a stumping, surpassing the 59-year-old record held by South Africa's Denis Lindsay.
Lindsay had scored 69 and 182 in the two innings against Australia in Johannesburg in 1966 while recording eight dismissals, with six catches in the first innings and two in the second.
Litton broke the record shortly before lunch on the fifth day of the Abu Dhabi Test, taking a spectacular diving catch off Ebadot Hossain to dismiss Ikram Alikhil. By that stage, he had already taken eight catches and completed a stumping.
The 32-year-old also holds the record for the most Test dismissals by a Bangladesh wicketkeeper, with 142 in 78 innings. Mushfiqur Rahim follows with 113 dismissals in 99 innings.
Litton's nine dismissals in Abu Dhabi also eclipsed Bangladesh's previous national record of seven, set by Khaled Mashud Pilot against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2004.
A century on the eve of his birthday, 9,000 international runs and a world record on his 32nd birthday have made the Abu Dhabi Test a landmark occasion in Litton Das's career.
