Pori Moni Granted Bail in Assault and Vandalism Case
Actress Pori Moni has secured bail after surrendering before a Dhaka court in a case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud over allegations of assault, vandalism and intimidation.
Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman granted her bail on a Tk500 bond following a hearing on Thursday. Her lawyer, Nilanjana Rifat Survi, confirmed the development.
Survi said an arrest warrant had been issued against the actress on Wednesday. Pori Moni subsequently appeared voluntarily before the court and sought bail, which was granted after a hearing.
According to court sources, Wednesday had been scheduled for recording witness testimony in the case. However, the complainant's side sought cancellation of Pori Moni's bail, while her lawyer requested an adjournment, citing her inability to attend court due to an allergy-related illness.
The court accepted the complainant's application, cancelled her bail and ordered an arrest warrant to be issued against her.
Earlier, on January 26 last year, the court framed charges in the case and ordered the commencement of the trial. An arrest warrant was also issued against Pori Moni on that occasion, prompting her to surrender before the court and obtain bail.
