Rizvi accuses Jamaat leader Golam Porwar of spreading disinformation against government
BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday accused Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar of spreading false information and disinformation with the aim of embarrassing the current government.
He made the allegations while participating in a dengue awareness leaflet distribution campaign in Fakirapul, Dhaka, on Saturday morning.
Rizvi alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami had reached an understanding with the Awami League, which was ousted from power and whose activities have been banned. He claimed that the BNP had already presented relevant documents and evidence to substantiate its allegations.
Warning against attempts to destabilise the country, the BNP leader said the public would not tolerate any effort to create a new wave of anarchy. He added that the government was continuing to work responsibly for public welfare despite what he described as disinformation and provocative activities by its opponents.
Highlighting the government's performance, Rizvi said Bangladesh ranked ahead of neighbouring India and Pakistan in the Global Hunger Index, describing the country's position as evidence of sound government policies.
BNP Joint Secretary General and MP Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Swechchhasebak Dal Vice-President Dr Zahidur Rahman, Chhatra Dal Vice-President Dr Touhidur Rahman Aowal, and party leaders and activists from various levels also attended the leaflet distribution programme.
