Minister Rashid underscored the phased rollout of the ‘Farmer Card’ to safeguard farmers’ interests and promote sustainable agricultural production
The World Bank has shown interest in supporting Bangladesh’s agricultural sector, with a focus on ensuring the supply of farm inputs, advancing agro-processing, and strengthening market infrastructure.
A delegation led by Jean Pesme, Division Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan at the World Bank, met Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid at the Ministry of Agriculture on Sunday.
Welcoming the delegation, Minister Rashid highlighted the government’s ‘Farmer Card’ initiative, which is set to be introduced nationwide in phases, starting this year with pilot projects in 11 blocks.
He said the initiative is designed to safeguard farmers’ interests, boost production, and promote sustainable development in the sector.
During the meeting, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Livestock, the Ministry of Food, and the World Bank explored ways to deepen cooperation to support sustainable agriculture and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
The delegation also included Dina Umali-Deininger, South Asia Regional Director for Sustainable Development, along with other senior World Bank officials.
