A bomb threat targeting a Biman Bangladesh Airlines passenger flight was reportedly sent from a Pakistani WhatsApp number, according to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

In a statement posted on its verified Facebook page, the DMP revealed that an Armed Police Battalion (APBn) duty officer received a WhatsApp message from a Pakistani number at 4:37 am on Wednesday. The message claimed that 34 kilograms of high-grade explosives were aboard flight BG-536, which was en route to Dhaka from Rome, Italy.

In response to the threat, the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) wing’s bomb disposal and canine units immediately launched a joint operation at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Biman Bangladesh Airlines later confirmed in a press release that no explosives were found following a thorough inspection. The flight landed safely in Dhaka at 9:20 am, and all 250 passengers and 13 crew members disembarked safely by 1:30 pm after security checks.

Boshra Islam, general manager of Biman’s public relations division, reported that the threat was communicated to airport authorities shortly before the aircraft’s arrival. Upon landing, the plane was secured by security forces, and a comprehensive inspection of passengers, baggage, and the aircraft was conducted as per standard protocols.

A security clearance was issued at 12:30 pm, confirming no suspicious materials were present. The situation was handled in accordance with safety regulations, ensuring the safety of all passengers and crew.
