Bangladesh, UAE explore stronger labour market, trade and investment ties
Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have discussed expanding job opportunities for Bangladeshi workers, facilitating the recruitment of skilled labour and strengthening bilateral trade and investment.
The issues were discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin and UAE Ambassador Abdulla Ali AlHamoudi at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on Tuesday (13 October). The meeting also focused on strengthening longstanding bilateral relations, Muslim solidarity and mutual cooperation.
The discussions followed a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Both sides emphasised the need to create more employment opportunities for Bangladeshis in the UAE, particularly in taxi and truck driving, while exploring ways to facilitate the recruitment of skilled Bangladeshi workers.
They also highlighted the importance of strengthening people-to-people exchanges and fostering closer ties between the two countries.
The meeting further explored opportunities to expand bilateral trade, attract greater UAE investment in Bangladesh and enhance cooperation in the energy sector.
Potential areas of investment and collaboration in infrastructure and industry also featured in the discussions, with both sides underscoring the importance of closer cooperation to deepen economic ties and promote shared development.
