Myanmar starts verification process for initial group of 180,000 Rohingyas for repatriation
This marks the first confirmed list, representing a significant step toward a long-term resolution of the Rohingya crisis.

Myanmar authorities have informed Bangladesh that, from a list of 800,000 Rohingyas currently taking shelter in Bangladesh, they have verified 180,000 individuals as eligible for repatriation.
The list was originally submitted by Bangladesh in six batches between 2018 and 2020.
Verification for an additional 70,000 Rohingyas is still pending, as further checks on their photographs and names are required.
This development was conveyed to Dr. Khalilur Rahman, High Representative to the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, by U Than Shwe, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Myanmar, during a meeting on the sidelines of the sixth BIMSTEC Summit held in Bangkok on Friday.
This represents the first confirmed list of its kind and marks a significant step toward a lasting resolution of the Rohingya crisis.
Myanmar authorities also assured that the verification process for the remaining 550,000 individuals on the original list will be conducted swiftly. During the meeting, the High Representative extended condolences for the victims of the recent earthquake in Myanmar and reiterated Bangladesh’s willingness to provide further humanitarian aid to those affected.
