The US military said it has completed its 13th consecutive night of strikes against Iran

The US military said late Thursday that it had completed another round of strikes on Iran, marking the 13th consecutive night of American military operations.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the latest wave of strikes lasted more than two hours.

In a statement, CENTCOM said it targeted Iranian military command centres, drone storage facilities, communication networks, coastal surveillance sites and maritime assets, claiming the operations were intended to reduce threats to civilian mariners and commercial shipping transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The strikes came as President Donald Trump warned of "major military punishment" for Iran and its Houthi allies after the Yemeni group attacked two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea on Thursday, widening the conflict to another key global shipping route.

Iran has blocked the Strait of Hormuz amid the escalating tensions.

The US-Israeli military campaign against Iran began on 28 February, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory strikes on Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military bases.

Since then, US-Israeli strikes on Iran and Israeli attacks in Lebanon have reportedly killed thousands of people and displaced millions.

Trump has also threatened to target Iran's energy infrastructure and bridges. In response, Tehran warned that any such attacks would trigger strikes on regional oil, gas, electricity and other critical economic facilities.

The 1949 Geneva Conventions prohibit attacks on infrastructure considered essential for civilians during armed conflict. International law experts in the United States said in April that such attacks could constitute war crimes.

Trump also faced widespread criticism after threatening earlier this year to destroy Iran's "entire civilization."
