Salahuddin Sumon and Nilay Embark on a New Adventure in the Amazon Jungle
Bangladeshi travel content creator Salahuddin Sumon and fellow traveller Nilay Kumar Biswas have embarked on an expedition to the Amazon rainforest, one of the world's most renowned and enigmatic natural landscapes.
The journey began in Manaus, a city in Brazil that serves as a gateway to the Amazon. Organised by the acclaimed expedition company Amazon Gero Tours, the adventure took the team along the Rio Negro and Rio Solimões rivers, where they witnessed the spectacular “Meeting of the Waters” — a unique natural phenomenon in which the dark waters of the Rio Negro flow alongside the lighter waters of the Rio Solimões without immediately mixing due to differences in temperature, speed and density.
Venturing deeper into the rainforest, the travellers crossed the Mamori River before trekking into the heart of the Amazon. Along the way, they explored dense jungle terrain, encountered rare plant and animal species, and learned about the medicinal properties of various plants native to the region. The expedition was led by experienced jungle guides Gero and Marco, who have spent decades guiding visitors through the vast rainforest.
As part of the experience, the team caught and tasted piranha, one of the Amazon’s most iconic fish species. They also observed a variety of wildlife, including exotic birds, reptiles and river dolphins.
Reflecting on the journey, Salahuddin Sumon said visiting the Amazon had been a lifelong ambition.
“It has always been my dream to explore the Amazon and share its wonders with Bengali-speaking audiences around the world. Despite widespread curiosity about the rainforest, there is very little content available in Bengali. Being able to document this experience in my own language is truly a dream come true,” he said.
Nilay Kumar Biswas also expressed his excitement about the expedition.
“I grew up watching documentaries on National Geographic and Discovery and reading stories about the Amazon. Those experiences inspired me to dream of visiting this extraordinary place one day,” he said.
“Now that I’m here, it feels surreal. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity and especially excited about the possibility of spotting a jaguar or an anaconda.”
During their stay, the travellers also interacted with indigenous communities and attended traditional cultural performances, gaining firsthand insight into their unique customs, lifestyles and heritage.
Gero, founder of Amazon Gero Tours, welcomed the Bangladeshi visitors and praised the opportunity to showcase the rainforest to a wider audience.
“It is a pleasure to host one of Bangladesh’s most popular content creators in the Amazon. We are delighted to help bring the beauty, diversity and mystery of the rainforest to audiences in Bangladesh and beyond,” he said.
The Amazon expedition forms part of Salahuddin Sumon’s broader travel journey across South America and Antarctica.
