Tigers Roar in Darwin as Bangladesh Secure Historic Win Over Australia

Bangladesh secured a historic first-ever Test victory over Australia in Darwin on Sunday, successfully chasing a modest target of 57 after dismissing the hosts for 284 in their second innings.

Resuming at 161-4, Australia added 123 runs but suffered a dramatic collapse, losing their final six wickets for the same number of runs.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz spearheaded Bangladesh’s bowling attack with five wickets, while Hasan Mahmud claimed three in the innings to finish the match with an impressive nine-wicket haul.

Cameron Green top-scored for Australia with 87 before Hasan Mahmud dismissed him with the hosts on 278. Miraz also removed Alex Carey (49), Beau Webster (15), Pat Cummins (14) and Steven Smith (44), before trapping Nathan Lyon lbw for 15 to wrap up Australia’s innings.

Bangladesh had earlier bowled Australia out for 198 in the first innings before posting a commanding 426, securing a 228-run lead. Tanzid Hasan scored his maiden Test century, while Najmul Hossain Shanto made 84 and Miraz contributed 65.

Hasan Mahmud took six wickets in Australia’s first innings, while Taskin Ahmed claimed the other wicket.

Chasing just 57 runs, Bangladesh reached the target without significant trouble, completing a landmark victory and recording their first-ever Test win over Australia.

The historic triumph is a major milestone for Bangladesh cricket and further underlines the team’s growing strength in Test cricket.
