PM pledges to ensure hassle-free retirement benefits for teachers
He says teachers’ contributions continue even after retirement.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has pledged to ensure that retired teachers and employees of non-government MPO-listed institutions receive their retirement and welfare benefits directly in their bank accounts without delays, repeated office visits or harassment.
Speaking at a ceremony in Dhaka, he said more than 123,000 retired teachers and employees across all 64 districts were being brought under the digital payment system, with over 70,000 awaiting retirement benefits expected to receive payments.
The government has allocated Tk2,035.86 crore to clear the accumulated backlog through Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) and iBAS++.
Tarique Rahman said the initiative would reduce corruption and eliminate the role of middlemen, ensuring beneficiaries receive their rightful money online and on time.
He also stressed that retirement does not end a teacher’s responsibility to society, urging retired educators to continue serving as guides and “beacons of light” in their communities.
