At least 60 dead in Nigeria boat accident

At least 60 people lost their lives when a boat carrying mostly women and children capsized in Nigeria's northern Niger state this week, according to a local official. Around 160 passengers have been rescued after the wooden boat, which was carrying nearly 300 people, sank on Tuesday night on the River Niger near the Gbajibo Community. The passengers were returning to Gbajibo from Mundi after attending the annual Maulud celebration when the tragedy occurred, stated Jibril Abdullahi Muregi, chairman of the Mokwa local government area.
