Eid holiday travel begins as people depart Dhaka in festive mood
With only four days remaining before the holy Eid-ul-Azha, the rush of homebound travellers has already begun as people start leaving the capital to celebrate the festival with their families.
A visit to Kamalapur Railway Station found large crowds of passengers departing Dhaka by train. Trains were seen leaving on schedule, with no reports of disruptions or delays.
On Saturday, Bangladesh Railways Secretary Md Fahimul Islam visited the country’s main rail hub ahead of Eid-ul-Azha and outlined the overall security measures and preparations.
He said Bangladesh Railway had taken all necessary steps to prevent schedule disruptions and expressed confidence that there would be no major problems during this year’s Eid travel period.
He also said authorities would make every effort to stop passengers from travelling on train rooftops.
Meanwhile, the station manager at Kamalapur said special Eid train services would begin operating from Sunday (24 May).
