The Pentagon is preparing for a potential weeks-long ground campaign in Iran, The Washington Post reported on Saturday, citing US officials.

According to the report, the plans may include raids by Special Operations forces as well as conventional infantry units. It remains unclear whether President Donald Trump would authorize any such operations.

As the conflict in Iran enters its fifth week, the Trump administration has already deployed US Marines to the Middle East and is considering sending thousands of troops from the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division to the region.
