Govt approves purchase of 117 LNG cargoes from the US
Govt approves Tk519.37 crore purchases of sugar, soybean oil and lentils.
The government on Wednesday approved the purchase of 117 LNG cargoes from US-based Gunvor USA LLC over 12 years, from 2026 to 2038, under a government-to-government arrangement.
It also approved six additional LNG cargoes from three companies through direct procurement, as Bangladesh seeks to secure reliable energy supplies amid geopolitical tensions and volatility in global markets.
The decisions were approved by the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, the government approved the purchase of 25,000 tonnes of sugar, 20 million litres of refined soybean oil and 10,000 tonnes of lentils worth Tk519.37 crore to ensure adequate supplies of essential food items.
Of the total, Tk157.86 crore will be spent on sugar, Tk282.55 crore on soybean oil and Tk78.96 crore on lentils.
