Govt moves to compile an accurate list of Freedom Fighters.

The BNP government has decided to compile an “accurate and comprehensive” list of Freedom Fighters, including Liberation War martyrs and women subjected to sexual violence during the war.

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs discussed several measures to implement the initiative at a consultation meeting on Wednesday. According to a ministry press release, participants stressed the need for a reliable national database based on extensive verification, cross-checking and research rather than scattered or unverified information.

Speakers noted that, given the passage of decades since the Liberation War, preserving the testimonies of eyewitnesses and people with firsthand experience has become increasingly urgent. They proposed collecting information at the grassroots level with the involvement of government officials, researchers, students and local communities from villages to districts.

The meeting also emphasized documenting and verifying the contributions and deaths of not only armed Freedom Fighters but also civilians, teachers, intellectuals and women killed by Pakistani occupation forces and their collaborators.

Participants further recommended preserving the documents and sources supporting every name on the list, ensuring that the database becomes a credible historical resource for future generations and researchers.
