Writ Filed Seeking to Declare Hannan Masud’s Parliamentary Seat Vacant
A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking to declare the parliamentary seat of Abdul Hannan Masud, MP for Noakhali-6 (Hatiya), vacant or cancel his membership.
Supreme Court lawyer Md Yunus Ali Akand filed the petition with the High Court’s relevant section on Wednesday (19 August), confirming the matter himself.
Hannan Masud, a National Citizen Party (NCP) leader, became the youngest MP elected in the 13th parliamentary election held on 12 February. His election affidavit also identified him as the youngest candidate in the polls.
He rose to national prominence during the July-August 2024 student-led mass uprising, when he served as a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Masud was actively involved in various phases of the movement, particularly during periods when there was a leadership vacuum.
