Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A. M. M. Nasir Uddin emphasized on Monday that the Election Commission (EC) will steer clear of any actions that might lead to political controversy. Speaking at a views-exchange meeting with election officials from the Mymensingh region at the City Corporation auditorium, he clarified that all decisions within the Commission are taken collectively, with no individual acting unilaterally.

He reiterated the EC’s commitment to ensuring that the upcoming national elections are conducted in a free, fair, and neutral manner, firmly stating that there would be no scope for votes being cast during nighttime. Addressing a query about the swearing-in of Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Ishraq Hossain, the CEC said the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Local Government and not the Election Commission.

The meeting also focused on updating the voter list and preparing for the next general election. The session was presided over by Regional Election Officer Shahinur Islam Pramanik and attended by additional regional, district, and upazila election officers.
