IPU Secretary General Anda Filip departs Dhaka after Bangladesh visit

Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Anda Filip left Dhaka on Wednesday after concluding her visit to Bangladesh.

Filip arrived in Dhaka on August 30 and held a series of meetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikrom, Opposition Leader Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed. She also met women members of parliament and lawmakers who had experienced political persecution, according to a press release from the Parliament Secretariat.

During the meetings, the IPU Secretary General highlighted the importance of democratic reconstruction in Bangladesh and called for stronger and more cordial relations among parliamentarians.

During her stay, Filip visited the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum.

Additional Secretary of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat, along with other relevant officials, saw her off at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport as she departed Dhaka.
