Indian High Commissioner, PM’s Defence Adviser Discuss Strengthening Defence Ties

Bangladesh and India have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral defence cooperation and collaborating on shared security interests during a meeting in Dhaka.

Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi held the meeting at the Defence Adviser’s office at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment on Wednesday (9 September).

The meeting began with an exchange of greetings, followed by discussions on a range of issues, including joint training programmes aimed at enhancing the professional capabilities of the armed forces, military officer exchanges, disaster management, regional peace and maritime security.

During the meeting, the Indian high commissioner praised the government’s initiatives in the socio-economic sector and underscored India’s importance to its longstanding military and strategic relationship with Bangladesh.

Trivedi also reaffirmed India’s commitment to working with Bangladesh’s armed forces to enhance professional cooperation and capabilities while advancing shared security interests.

Both sides expressed their resolve to further strengthen defence ties, contribute to regional stability and work jointly to address common global challenges.
