Mahdi Amin, IOM Chief Discuss Safe Migration and Overseas Employment Opportunities for Women
Prime Minister’s Adviser and spokesperson at the Prime Minister’s Office Mahdi Amin held discussions with a delegation led by International Organization for Migration (IOM) Chief of Mission Laura Tom Bond, highlighting the need to expand safe and dignified overseas employment opportunities for Bangladeshi women.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday (July 16), focused on strengthening migration governance, expanding safe labour migration opportunities and enhancing cooperation to protect migrant workers.
Mahdi Amin stressed the importance of exploring new overseas labour markets for Bangladeshi workers, particularly in the Middle East and other emerging destinations. He also emphasised the need to increase the deployment of skilled workers, strengthen vocational training and develop human resources in line with the demands of the global labour market.
He further underscored the importance of creating more overseas employment opportunities for women through safe, orderly and dignified migration.
The discussions also covered measures to make the migration process safer, more transparent, affordable and technology-driven, while improving accountability and ensuring easier access to services for migrant workers.
The IOM delegation briefed the adviser on the organisation’s ongoing activities in Bangladesh and expressed its willingness to expand technical and technological support for various government initiatives. The agency also reaffirmed its commitment to helping the government improve migration management and provide modern services for workers preparing to go abroad.
The meeting also discussed preparations for the upcoming launch of Bangladesh’s National Action Plan under the Global Compact for Migration, which is being implemented in partnership with the Bangladesh government.
