A Dhaka court on Tuesday barred two officials recommended for the administration and foreign affairs cadres in the 38th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examination from travelling abroad over allegations that they used forged certificates to obtain government jobs and draw salaries and allowances.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir issued the order following applications filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said the commission’s Public Relations Officer, Akterul Islam.

The accused are Sanjoy Das, a resident of Hazaribagh in Dhaka who was recommended for the administration cadre, and Abu Saleh Md Musa, from Khaliajuri in Netrokona, who was recommended for the foreign affairs cadre.

ACC Assistant Director and investigation officer Sajjad Hossain had earlier filed applications seeking restrictions on their foreign travel.

According to the applications, the two allegedly obtained forged certificates through fraudulent means to secure government jobs and financial benefits. They subsequently presented the documents as genuine to establish their eligibility, allegedly misleading the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) into recommending them for the respective cadres.

The applications further alleged that the two received salaries and allowances after joining their positions, causing financial losses to the government.

The ACC said it had received credible information suggesting that the accused were attempting to leave the country. It sought the travel restrictions to ensure a fair investigation and prevent them from going abroad before the inquiries were completed.

The cases against both officials remain under investigation.
