Army chief meets Chief Adviser

Chief of Army Staff General Wakar-Uz-Zaman met Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka.
According to a statement from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the meeting focused on the army’s role in supporting the civil administration under the current situation. Professor Yunus expressed gratitude to the military for its continued contribution to maintaining law and order.
The statement noted that the Chief Adviser stressed the importance of streamlining this role with a well-defined command structure and stronger coordination among all forces in the months ahead, particularly in the run-up to the elections.
“I have pledged to the nation an election marked by high voter turnout, greater participation of youth and women, international confidence in security, and an atmosphere reflecting democracy and the rule of law,” the statement quoted Professor Yunus as saying.
General Wakar-Uz-Zaman reaffirmed the army’s full cooperation with the interim government and advised the Chief Adviser not to be distracted by rumours. “The entire army stands firmly committed to ensuring the success of the government’s initiatives and programmes,” he was quoted as saying.
