The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has briefed franchise captains on the updated Super Over rules for IPL 2025. According to these rules, one hour will be allocated for determining the result of a tied match, allowing multiple Super Overs if required.
Key Super Over Rules for IPL 2025:

Time Allocation: One hour is set aside for resolving a tied match through Super Overs.

Multiple Super Overs: If required, multiple Super Overs will be played within this period until a winner is determined.

Match Referee’s Decision: If the one-hour period is about to be exceeded, the match referee will inform the captains about the final Super Over.

Super Over Timing:

The first Super Over must commence within 10 minutes of the main match ending.

If the first Super Over is tied, the next one must begin within five minutes.

Each team faces a six-ball over.

The team scoring more runs wins, regardless of wickets lost.

If a team loses two wickets, their innings ends.

Weather and Delays:

The Super Over will take place on the scheduled match day, subject to weather conditions.

If interruptions occur, extra time will be granted to complete the Super Over(s).

Extra time will be determined as either the available gap before the match’s scheduled end time or 20 minutes—whichever is greater.

The team batting second in the main match will bat first in the Super Over.

The same umpires will officiate from their previous end.

Teams can take one unsuccessful Player Review per Super Over.

The fielding captain selects the ball from the umpires' spare box.

Fielding restrictions mirror those of the last over in an uninterrupted match.

Subsequent Super Overs (if required):

If tied, another Super Over is played within five minutes.

The team batting second in the previous Super Over will bat first in the next one.
