BCB terminates contract with Chittagong Kings, demands Tk46 crore in outstanding payments

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially terminated its settlement agreement with S.Q. Sports Enterprise Ltd., former owners of the Chittagong Kings franchise, and is seeking to recover $3.78 million (Tk46 crore) in unpaid dues from multiple editions of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
In a statement issued Thursday, the BCB said the company repeatedly failed to meet its legal and financial obligations for the 2012 and 2013 BPL seasons, including unpaid franchise fees, tax liabilities, and salaries owed to players and staff. Despite repeated reminders and legal notices over the years, the issue remained unresolved.
A settlement reached in September 2024 fell through after S.Q. Sports Enterprise failed to make any payment. As a result, the board ended the agreement on July 22, 2025, and filed an updated claim for $3,782,156.16 — comprising the original $1.55 million owed and more than $2.23 million in interest accrued between 2012 and 2025.
The total also includes payments the BCB says it made on the franchise’s behalf, along with adjustments for currency depreciation. Under the latest legal notice, the company can no longer settle the matter for the earlier agreed amount of $35 million.
The board further claimed S.Q. Sports Enterprise left additional unpaid dues from the 11th BPL edition, covering players, coaches, hotels, and vendors. It added that it will continue pursuing “all available legal remedies” to recover the amounts owed.
Meanwhile, Chittagong Kings owner Sameer Quader Chowdhury is scheduled to meet BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul on August 19. “The BCB president contacted me and set a date for a meeting on the 19th. Hopefully, we will discuss the way forward with him,”
