Leaders and activists of the National Citizens Committee held a protest rally in Gazipur today to condemn the attack on anti-discrimination students and the public. The rally was organized by the Gazipur district and metropolitan branches of the committee at Rajbari Ground in the district town around 12 noon, Saturday. Following the rally, students took to the streets in separate processions across the town.

Speakers at the rally included Ali Naser Khan, central organizer of the National Citizens Committee, central member M Shoaib, Anisur Rahman from Gazipur Metropolitan Gacha Police Station, Nabil Yusuf from Tongi West Police Station, among others. Ali Naser Khan stated, “The registration of the Awami League should be revoked, and those responsible for fascist actions must be tried under the Speedy Trial Act. Their bank accounts and assets should be seized. The perpetrators of the attack on students and the public must be arrested and brought to justice within 24 hours.”

Expressing his frustration over the delay in reaching the attack site on Friday night at the residence of former minister Mozammel Haque, Khan called for the resignation of the Home Affairs Advisor and an apology. He also demanded the removal of the Gazipur Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner. Student movement leaders claimed the Awami League and its allies had planned the attack on students, describing it as a targeted assault. They asserted that the process to eliminate fascism would begin in Gazipur. The attack, they said, was orchestrated by supporters of Jahangir Alam, an ally of the government. The aim, they claimed, was to frame the students for vandalizing AKM Mozammel Haque's house, with plans to harm them further. "Ordinary people don’t conduct attacks like this," they added. "Hasina's supporters are orchestrating conspiracies from India to destabilize the country, and we must resist them unitedly." The role of the law enforcement in Gazipur was criticized, with calls for the immediate resignation of the Deputy Commissioner and Police Commissioner. They insisted that those responsible for the attack should be arrested within 24 hours.

On Friday night, around 9:30 pm, a group of individuals attacked the house of former Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque in Gazipur. Some locals detained and beat up the attackers, resulting in at least 15 injuries. Five of the injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
