UN General Assembly, PM Tarique Rahman to Visit US in September for UNGA
PM Tarique Rahman’s nine-day US trip to mark his first UNGA appearance and address as prime minister
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to travel to New York on September 21 to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), marking his first appearance and address at the global forum as head of government.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially notified the US Embassy in Dhaka of the visit through a note verbale.
Officials familiar with the preparations said arrangements are already underway for the prime minister’s nine-day US trip.
During his stay in New York, Tarique Rahman is expected to address the UN General Assembly and participate in several high-level meetings and side events held alongside the session. After completing his New York engagements, he is expected to travel to San Francisco to meet with expatriate Bangladeshis.
The US trip will be Tarique Rahman’s third overseas visit since forming the government in February this year. His first foreign trip as prime minister was to Malaysia, followed by a visit to China.
