Bangladesh has strongly condemned what it called a “heinous attack” by Israeli forces in southern Lebanon that killed two Bangladeshi nationals.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, 12 May, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs identified the victims as Shafiqul Islam of Satkhira Sadar and Md Nahidul Islam Nahid of Ashashuni upazila in Satkhira.

“The government of Bangladesh expresses its profound grief and deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the victims,” the statement said.

According to the ministry, the Bangladesh Embassy in Lebanon is coordinating with the relevant local authorities to complete the formalities required for repatriating the bodies. The embassy is also maintaining contact with the victims’ family members.

Expressing deep concern over the ongoing violence in the region, Bangladesh called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and abide by international humanitarian law.

“Bangladesh reiterates its deep concern over the continuing violence and loss of civilian lives in the region and calls for maximum restraint and adherence to international humanitarian law,” the statement added.
