BCB Directors Submit No-Confidence Motion Against Faruque Ahmed

A group of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) directors has submitted a formal no-confidence letter to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, calling for the immediate removal of BCB President Faruque Ahmed. The directors accuse Faruque of autocratic leadership, violating the BCB constitution, financial irregularities, and appointing controversial individuals to key positions.

In the letter addressed to the Honourable Minister, the directors allege that Faruque has consistently bypassed board consultation, particularly in administrative and financial decisions. They cite the unilateral dismissal of head coach Chandika Hathurusingha as a breach of Clause 14(b) of the BCB constitution, which mandates board approval for such actions.

Signatories include prominent directors such as Mahbubul Amin, Kazi Enam Ahmed, Fahim Sinha, Salahuddin Chowdhury, Iftikhar Rahman, Saifur Alam, Swapan Chowdhury, and Manjur Alam. They claim Faruque has centralized power, undermined collective governance, and cultivated a toxic environment marked by fear, favoritism, and interference in both national and club-level cricket.

The letter also details financial misconduct, including awarding BPL management to a company owned by a BCB director without a transparent bidding process—raising serious conflict-of-interest concerns. Additionally, the directors allege that unqualified individuals, some with criminal allegations, have been placed in crucial roles based on personal loyalty rather than merit.

The directors blame Faruque for Bangladesh's slump to 10th in the ICC rankings and cite his failure to act on demands for a white paper on past corruption or to advance long-promised constitutional reforms. They further accuse him of manipulating domestic cricket affairs, including club elections and the vetting of new BPL franchises like Durbar Rajshahi and Chittagong Kings, allegedly linked to his close associates.

Concluding the letter, the directors urge the Ministry to revoke Faruque’s nomination and launch an investigation into the allegations to protect the integrity and future of Bangladesh cricket.

As of the time of reporting, neither the Ministry of Youth and Sports nor Faruque Ahmed had issued an official response.
