Mbappe Cautions France: 'There's Still a Long Way to Go'
France captain Kylian Mbappe has urged caution despite his side's 2-0 victory over Morocco that secured a place in the World Cup semi-finals, insisting there is still plenty of work to do before lifting the trophy.
Speaking after Thursday's quarter-final at Gillette Stadium near Boston, Mbappe said France were staying grounded despite moving within two wins of another world title.
"I don't know if you can say we are on a mission. That is the easy term to use. But we know the only way to ease up is by winning," he told French broadcaster M6.
"We're delighted to be in the semi-finals, but there's still a long way to go. We know the challenge ahead will be even tougher, and we're ready for it."
The France skipper added that the team would recover before turning their attention to Friday's quarter-final between Spain and Belgium to discover their next opponents.
"We're prepared to face whoever comes next. We'll recover well and watch tomorrow's match to see who we'll play."
Mbappe recovered from an early setback after missing a first-half penalty, opening the scoring before helping create Ousmane Dembele's goal that sealed France's victory.
The forward was substituted late in the match after suffering a knock to his ankle, making way for Jean-Philippe Mateta, but downplayed any injury concerns.
"I'm fine. I took a knock on the ankle, but it's nothing serious. At that stage, JP was better prepared to play the final 15 minutes, so I came off," he said.
Mbappe is expected to be available for France's semi-final in Dallas on 14 July against the winner of the Spain-Belgium quarter-final.
France are chasing a third World Cup title, having previously lifted the trophy in 1998 and 2018. They were runners-up in 2022 after losing the final to Argentina on penalties.
