Govt to cut Hajj package costs starting 2027, Kaikobad tells Parliament
Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad has said the 2026 Hajj package is in its final stage of preparation, adding that the government is working to bring down Hajj costs from 2027.
He informed Parliament of the plan on Tuesday (7 April) while responding to a query from Cox’s Bazar-3 MP Lutfur Rahman on steps to make Hajj more affordable. The responses to the unstarred questions were submitted in writing rather than answered orally in the House.
Kaikobad said Hajj flights for this year are set to begin on 18 April. “Efforts are underway to reduce expenses by reviewing various service sectors. Measures to cut costs will be incorporated when the 2027 package is finalised and announced,” he said.
Replying to another question from Dhaka-18 MP SM Jahangir Hossain, the minister also provided updates on the 2026 Hajj package, addressing issues related to pricing, flight schedules, and pilgrim safety at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka.
In response to concerns over security and movement at the airport, he outlined a multi-layered logistics plan. The ministry has coordinated with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to introduce a ‘dedicated traffic route’ ensuring smooth transit between the Hajj camp and the airport. Pilgrims from across the country will access the Hajj Camp via a newly constructed road through the Civil Aviation Community Center to ease congestion. A one-way traffic system for pilgrim buses has also been introduced to enable quick access to the terminal.
He added that Saudi immigration procedures will be completed at Dhaka airport, allowing pilgrims to leave the airport immediately upon arrival in Saudi Arabia without further checks.
The minister also highlighted medical and support services, noting that a 24/7 medical centre will operate at the Hajj Camp, with an ambulance on standby for emergencies. A round-the-clock control room has been set up to monitor operations, while the ‘Labbayk’ mobile app will track pilgrims’ location and travel status. For assistance, pilgrims can call the ‘16136’ hotline at any time.
