Gold prices have dropped sharply once again in the domestic market, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) slashing rates by Tk14,813 per bhori.

BAJUS announced the reduction in a notice issued on Saturday (31 January), saying the revised prices took effect from 10am the same day.

Under the new rates, 22-carat gold is selling at Tk255,616 per bhori (11.664 grammes). The price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk244,011 per bhori, while 18-carat gold is now priced at Tk209,136 per bhori. Gold traded under the traditional method is being sold at Tk171,869 per bhori.

Silver prices have also been cut. The price of 22-carat silver has been fixed at Tk7,290 per bhori, while 21-carat silver is selling at Tk6,940 per bhori, 18-carat silver at Tk5,949 per bhori, and traditionally made silver at Tk4,432 per bhori.

The latest reduction comes just days after gold prices hit a record high in the local market, driven by a sharp surge in global prices. On Thursday morning, BAJUS raised gold prices by Tk16,213 per bhori in a single adjustment, taking the price of premium-quality gold to Tk286,000 per bhori — the highest level ever recorded in Bangladesh and the largest single increase to date.
