Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has issued a strong warning following the attack on a joint forces camp in Jungle Salimpur in Chattogram, saying the incident reflects the erosion of rule of law over the past 17 years.

He said the government is closely monitoring incidents like the Jungle Salimpur attack and similar assaults on police personnel elsewhere, adding that those responsible will face strict action. “No form of terrorism, drug abuse or corruption will be tolerated in the country,” he said.

The minister made the remarks at a press briefing held at Police Headquarters on Tuesday (26 May).

Salahuddin also noted that road accidents have declined this year, although most of the incidents that occurred were caused by human error. He called for greater awareness among commuters to help further reduce accidents.

He said a dedicated monitoring cell at Police Headquarters remains active during the Eid period, with constant oversight of highways and cattle markets.

According to the minister, counterfeit currency detection systems have been installed at livestock markets, while coordinated efforts are underway to ensure sacrificial animal waste is removed within 24 hours after Eid.

Addressing traffic congestion, he said recommendations would be submitted to the Ministry of Road Transport for modernising toll management systems and expanding digitisation.

He also assured that adequate security measures would be in place for the Loknath festival in Narayanganj and the Kumbh Mela in Madaripur.

Referring to the Jungle Salimpur incident, authorities said several hundred miscreants attacked a joint forces camp in the Alinagar area late Sunday night, vandalising the under-construction facility and assaulting personnel. Joint forces reportedly fired 105 rounds in self-defence, though no casualties were reported.

Officials added that a follow-up operation was carried out on Monday, during which several people were detained for questioning.
