Amid Fears of Trump’s Return, Bangladesh’s Yunus Government Accused of Targeting Hindus to Block Hasina
Sources indicate that following Sheikh Hasina's departure, the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus is allegedly fabricating cases against Hindu communities. There is reportedly an effort underway to ban Hindu organizations in Bangladesh, including ISKCON and other prominent groups.

Top Indian intelligence sources told CNN-News18 on Thursday that the targeting of Hindus in Bangladesh is primarily a covert effort to attack the ousted prime minister, Sheikh Hasina. The Muhammad Yunus-led interim government, facing international pressure and the incoming US administration under Donald Trump, is reportedly in a state of alarm and is determined to prevent Hasina's return at all costs. After Hasina's congratulatory message to Trump following his election victory, sources said the Awami League has become more active in Dhaka, pushing for her immediate return.
Following Hasina’s departure, the sources claimed that the Yunus-led government is fabricating cases against Hindus and attempting to ban Hindu organizations in Bangladesh, including ISKCON and other prominent groups.
"A false Hindu representative was sent to UN commissions," one source noted. "The Yunus government fears international pressure to reinstate Hasina."
The sources also indicated that targeting Hindus and other communities is meant to incite unrest. Fabricated news has been circulating on social media to malign the Hindu community, with the army and police allegedly working in collaboration with radical Islamist groups in Bangladesh.
Over 100 Hindus have reportedly disappeared from a group of 200 apprehended individuals, the sources added. The aim behind these actions, they believe, is to create enough tension to imprison Hindus and impose long-term bans on organizations like ISKCON under various pretexts.
“The goal is to dismantle the support for Hasina among Hindus in Bangladesh, as they recognize that their safety has been largely ensured under her leadership," said one source.
Hindus, who make up around 8% of Bangladesh's population, have historically supported Sheikh Hasina's Awami League. Recent unrest in the country, particularly concerning ISKCON, has escalated after a Facebook post criticizing the organization triggered confrontations between the Hindu community and the police in Chittagong. This situation led to a joint operation by the police and military.
Some individuals and groups, including an organization called Inqilab Manch, have been pushing for a ban on ISKCON in Bangladesh.
