The interim government does not expect any major changes in U.S. policy toward Bangladesh after Donald Trump assumes the presidency.

Foreign adviser Md Touhid Hossain shared this view on Thursday evening when addressing questions from reporters at the foreign ministry. In response to concerns about the future of Dhaka-Washington relations under Trump’s leadership, Touhid commented, "There’s no need to speculate prematurely. Let’s wait for the next two months. Once Donald Trump takes office, we’ll see what steps he takes. He hasn’t made any statements about whether relations with Bangladesh will be positive or negative."

He further noted that Bangladesh’s relationship with the United States doesn’t depend on the political party in power. The issues discussed with the Biden administration—including demands and ongoing negotiations—were also addressed with the Trump administration, suggesting no significant shift in policy between the two.

Touhid added, "We’ll observe the situation and communicate accordingly. Let’s see what happens."

Regarding his participation in the UN counter-terrorism conference, Touhid stated that Bangladesh reaffirmed its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of terrorism. He emphasized that simply holding conferences would be ineffective if the root causes of terrorism are not addressed, pointing out that despite increased anti-terrorism efforts, the frequency of terror attacks has also risen, indicating that current measures are not yielding the desired outcomes.
