Home Minister says there is no plan to form a new commission over the Pilkhana massacre
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Wednesday said that no fresh investigation commission will be constituted over the Pilkhana massacre.
He made the statement while speaking at a programme at the Banani Military Cemetery marking National Martyred Army Day.
The minister noted that the interim government had already set up a suitable commission to look into the incident. “The commission’s recommendations, along with the cases currently under judicial proceedings, will be concluded. Other proposals will be implemented in phases,” he said.
Addressing the families of the slain officers, he assured them that justice would be ensured in the Pilkhana killings to prevent any recurrence. “The massacre was an effort to cripple the armed forces, orchestrated by elements that do not believe in the country’s independence and sovereignty,” he added.
On February 25, 2009, 74 people — including 57 army officers — were killed at the then headquarters of the Bangladesh Rifles in Pilkhana.
Since 2024, the day has been officially observed as National Martyred Army Day in memory of the fallen officers.
