Socially boycott those seeking to legitimise fascism: Andaleeve Rahman

Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman Partho has said there is no alternative to socially boycotting individuals who seek to legitimise fascism through intellectual platforms.

“If someone embraces authoritarianism in their thoughts and consciousness, it reflects their own intellectual and moral shortcomings,” he said.

However, the minister noted that if such activities cross the line into treason, legal action would be taken in addition to social boycotts.

He made the remarks at a briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday, saying the government assumed office at a sensitive time rather than under normal circumstances. “Considering everything, the government is going through a sensitive period. It will move forward with the support of the people,” he said.

Andaleeve Rahman Partho again called for a social boycott of those attempting to legitimise fascism through intellectual platforms.

Regarding the cancellation of cultural programmes, including concerts, in several areas, the minister said the decisions were taken for security reasons.

He said such programmes had been cancelled in places including Brahmanbaria, adding that the government was reviewing the issue in consultation with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
