Education budget to rise, but effective prioritisation of spending remains essential: Minister
Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon today said the education budget is set to increase in the coming years, but stressed the importance of carefully determining how and where the funds are allocated.
He noted that proper prioritisation of spending is crucial to improving the overall quality of education.
The minister made the remarks as chief guest at a seminar held during the Regional Skills and Innovation Competition at the Shaheed Osman Bin Hadi Auditorium of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute.
During the event, he engaged in an open discussion with students and teachers, seeking their views on existing challenges in the education sector, reasons behind academic setbacks, student progress, and ways to enhance education quality.
Students highlighted several concerns, including irregular classes, delays in examinations, and a mismatch between the curriculum and syllabus.
Emphasising the importance of technical education, the minister said it has already been prioritised by the Prime Minister and must not be neglected under any circumstances. He called for a transformative push to strengthen this sector.
He also urged all stakeholders in education to act responsibly and work collectively toward nation-building.
Highlighting the need for accountability, the minister said that the ministry, teachers, and all relevant parties must be held responsible to ensure the development of the education system.
Among others, Technical and Madrasah Education Division Secretary Md. Daud Mia, Director General of the Directorate of Technical Education Abul Khair Akkas Ali, Divisional Commissioner Dr A N M Bazlur Rashid, and Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute Principal Abu Hanif also addressed the seminar.
