Former army chief Gen Iqbal has completed his testimony in the Ziaul Ahsan case.
Former Chief of Army Staff General (retd) Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan on Sunday completed his testimony in a case against former NTMC Director General, dismissed Major General Ziaul Ahsan, over allegations of enforced disappearances and more than a hundred killings.
General (retd) Iqbal began his deposition yesterday as the first prosecution witness (PW) before International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 and concluded it today. He was later cross-examined by the defence, although the cross-examination could not be completed.
Following the day’s proceedings, the two-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder adjourned the hearing until February 18.
Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam, along with prosecutors Mizanul Islam and Gazi MH Tamim, represented the prosecution, while senior advocates Mansurul Haque Chowdhury and Naznin Nahar appeared for the defence.
The ICT-1 had framed three specific charges against Ziaul Ahsan on January 14, 2026, after the prosecution submitted the formal charge on December 17, 2025.
Ziaul Ahsan is currently in custody and is facing trial in multiple cases involving allegations of abduction, torture, enforced disappearance, killings, and other crimes against humanity.
