New President Arrives at Bangabhaban to Take Oath
Invited Guests Begin Arriving at the Venue
Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has arrived at Bangabhaban to take the oath of office.
His motorcade entered the presidential palace at around 5:50pm on Friday. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Darbar Hall later in the evening.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and other state dignitaries are expected to attend the ceremony. Invited guests have already started arriving, while security has been tightened around Bangabhaban.
According to Cabinet Division officials, more than 1,200 guests have been invited. Acting Speaker of Parliament Kayser Kamal will administer the oath, with Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani moderating the ceremony.
The invitation states that Fakhrul will enter the Darbar Hall at 7:30pm. The ceremony will begin with the national anthem and Quran recitation, followed by the oath-taking.
Fakhrul was elected president on Thursday with 255 votes out of 349. The post became vacant after former President Mohammed Shahabuddin resigned on July 24.
