Mirza Fakhrul Elected as Bangladesh’s 23rd President
BNP-nominated candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been elected as Bangladesh’s 23rd president, securing 255 votes in the presidential election.
Fakhrul defeated his rival, Col (retd) Oli Ahmad, the candidate backed by the 11-party alliance, who received 88 votes.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, who also served as the election returning officer, announced the results after voting concluded at 5pm on Thursday at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Voting began at 2pm and continued for three hours without interruption.
