Suraiya Akhtar appointed new DNCC administrator as Azaz’s tenure ends
The appointment was formalised through a gazette notification signed by Mahbuba Irene on Monday.
The government has appointed Suraiya Akhtar Jahan as the new administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) after the one-year contractual tenure of outgoing administrator Mohammad Azaz came to an end.
The appointment was made through a gazette notification signed on Monday by Mahbuba Irene, joint secretary of the Local Government Division, according to a press release.
Mohammad Azaz was appointed as DNCC’s full-time administrator for a one-year term under Sub-section (1) of Section 25(a) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024. His appointment was formalised through a notification issued on 12 February 2025, signed by then deputy secretary Mahbuba Irene.
With the expiry of his tenure, the government has named Suraiya Akhtar Jahan as his successor.
Meanwhile, to mark the completion of Mohammad Azaz’s one-year term, DNCC has released a report outlining the corporation’s activities and achievements over the past year. The report has been attached to the official press release.
