Azaz removed from post as DNCC administrator

The government has removed Mohammad Azaz from his position as administrator of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), bringing a notable change in the city’s administration.

A gazette issued by the Local Government Division on Monday announced that Additional Secretary Suraiya Akhter Jahan has been appointed as the new DNCC administrator, replacing Azaz.

According to the gazette, Suraiya Akhter Jahan will assume the powers and responsibilities of the DNCC mayor as an additional charge alongside her current duties. She will receive only the designated duty allowance and no extra financial benefits.

Mohammad Azaz, who also serves as chairman of the River and Delta Research Centre, was appointed DNCC administrator on 12 February last year. His removal comes days after a court imposed a travel ban on him following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
